What equipment or uniform items will my child need?
A uniform consist of a pair of softball pants, jersey, visor, belt, and socks.  Balcones will provide each player a team jersey and visor that will be theirs to keep.  Once teams are formed, your Team Manager will inform you of what color pants, belt, and socks to purchase.  Each player is required to have their own glove and rubber cleats are highly recommended especially in Pinto divisions and above.  Players are encouraged to use their own equipment, but Balcones will provide batting helmets, bats, and catcher’s gear for team use during each season.

What do I need to know about the FALL Season?
The Fall Season is usually a learning/transitional season.  Some game rules are not strictly enforced so that girls moving up to a new division can adjust more easily.  Before games begin, teams may practice 1-3 times per week.  When games begin, teams may practice 1-2 times per week and play 1 or even 2 games in the same week.  Teams may play 8-12 games in the Fall, but 8 games is normal.

What do I need to know about the SPRING Season?
The Spring Season is where everything “counts” because of the organized post-season possibilities.  Teams may practice up to 3 times before games begin and then usually average 2 practices per week once scheduled games begin.  Teams may play 1-2 games per week for a total of 12-16 games in the Spring, but 12 games is normal.

When and where are games played?
Fall and Spring season games are played during the week and on Saturday’s.  Games are not typically played on Sunday unless it is a tournament game.  It takes an extreme circumstance that would require Sunday play for a regular season game.  We normally interlock with several other neighboring leagues such as Town & Country, Cedar Park, Liberty Hill, Manor, Georgetown, Hutto, Western Hills, Oak Hill, Lake Travis, and others.  We play as many games as possible at our own BYS fields but there will be times throughout the season when our teams need to travel to a neighboring league and play a game.  Games for Shetland and Pinto are typically 55 mins. while Mustang and above are usually 1 hour & 15 mins. and on occasion, any division game may exceed the normal time limit.

When and where are practices held?
Fall and Spring season practices can be held any day of the week including Saturday’s and Sunday’s.  Practice days, times, and location will be determined by the Coach.  Teams may practice at any neighborhood park/area of their choosing but usually practice at one of our softball fields subject to availability.  Practices for Shetland and Pinto are typically 1 hour to 1.5 hours while Mustang and above are usually 1.5 hours or longer.

How do I become a Coach or an Assistant Coach?
Anyone interested in coaching should indicate your interest during player registration.  The league performs background checks on all perspective Coaches and will need a separate Volunteer Form completed for this process.  Applicants will be selected and voted on by the Board Members.

What is Balcones Day?
It is the Balcones Youth Sports largest fundraising event during our Spring Season.  There will be food, many carnival-like games for the kids to play, a silent auction, a formal recognition of all of the teams and a banner competition, a “coaches vs. coaches” game, and more.  This event is open to our entire community to attend and all of the donated proceeds benefit our entire organization.
