Balcones Host's Local MLB's PHR Competition
Balcones Youth Sports is pleased to host MLB’s PitchHit&Run Presented by Scotts on Friday, April 10th at Senior Field starting at 6:30 PM. The free event is an opportunity for kids to compete with kids in their age bracket in pitching, hitting and running contests.
This event is open to boys and girls in baseball or softball between the ages of 7-14 years old. All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificates and have their parent or guardian fill out the registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition. Failure to provide proof of age may result in disqualification.
Boys and girls are divided into four age divisions: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14 and have the chance to advance through four levels of competitions. The Pitch portion includes six opportunities to hit a designated "strike zone." The Hit portion includes batting off of a tee and testing a competitor's ability to hit toward straight-away toward centerfield. Hits will be measured for distance and accuracy. The Run portion involves running the bases (most likely from second base to home) 160 ft for baseball players, 120 feet for softball players.
The local event is the first level, winners in each age group and event(s) will be notified and advance to compete in Sectional Level on May 16th at Krieg Fields in South Austin. Those winners will advance to compete in Team Champions at MLB ballparks, those winners advance to compete at the National Finals at the MLB All-Star game at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati in mid-July.
Every Spring Season, Balcones Youth Sports hosts their biggest fund raising event of the year and this season is very special because we are celebrating 50-years of BYS!
We have parents and grandparents who played here and are now watching their children or grandchildren play! The event, slated for mid-April, is packed with fun games for the children, includes a coaches baseball game vs BYS Alumni, a retail market, the Team Banner Contest and Silent Auction.
Each team should work together to create a team banner. Parents can make it during practices, or you can each order a commercial vinyl one from a local vendor. All of the team banners will be on display at Major Field an the one named "most creative" will win a special team prize. BYS encourages homemade banners but if your team is too busy, then a commercial one will be fine, each family will have to spilt the costs. Click here to see photos from 2014 Balcones Day.
All teams are also asked to create a themed basket and submit it to the Silent Auction. The team with the highest revenue earnings from the auction will also win a special team prize. All the proceeds for Balcones Day helps BYS pay for operating costs to maintain the facility. See our Balcones Day tab for more detailed event information. If you are interested in having a booth
Coaches, scorekeepers and parents there are several ways to track your teams game stats opposed to just using the scorebook. Little League has licensed several apps that you can track on your smart phone or tablets. Enter the rosters for both teams, enter the pitches, hits, strikes, fouls, balls, runs, stolen bases and the app can give you quick stats for you to evaluate and determine where your sluggers need practice! Click on the Little League Mobile Applications link for more information.
The Game Day/Practice Day rain out policy at BYS is usually determined about 1-2 hours prior to the first games/practices of the day. If it rained heavily over night the night before a game day or all day long prior to games/practice times, at least one to two BYS Board Members will go to the fields and check on the field conditions. If it deemed necessary to close (home plate under water, etc) we will update the Field Status widget on the right hand side of the BYS home page and send an email to all registered families.
