Opening Day Info & More...
DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER...OPENING DAY EVENTS HAVE BEEN CANCELED
Weather permitting...Opening Day is Saturday. Our baseball games are scheduled to begin at 3 PM. We will play the National Anthem and recite the Little League Pledge at all three fields. In addition, we will have an honorary first pitch thrown by a BYS Alumni at all three baseball fields.
Concession will be open and the teams scheduled for concession duty this Saturday are as follows:
CP Red Sox Team 2 pm - 5pm
Minor Phillies 5 pm - 8 pm
Most teams will be assigned two to three concession duty dates throughout the season. We will need 2-3 members from their respective teams during their assigned dates.
If you missed the Parent Rep Meeting last weekend, you will have a second chance to attend one on Thursday, February 26, 2015 Postponed to Friday, at 6 PM in the Board Room.
Meanwhile, please be prepared for cooler weather for night practices and games. Give your players long sleeve shirts to wear under their game or practice shirts and jackets for when they are in the dug-outs. Lastly, prepare yourselves with a jacket and perhaps a blanket for you and your family. It can get breezy at the fields and if your just sitting and watching the game it will get cold. We will have hot cocoa for sale at concession on game nights.
The Game Day/Practice Day rain out policy at BYS is usually determined about 1-2 hours prior to the first games/practices of the day. If it rained heavily over night the night before a game day or all day long prior to games/practice times, at least one to two BYS Board Members will go to the fields and check on the field conditions. If it deemed necessary to close (home plate under water, etc) we will update the Field Status widget on the right hand side of the BYS home page and send an email to all registered families.
Balcones Youth Sports is pleased to host MLB’s PitchHit&Run Presented by Scotts on Friday, April 10th at Senior Field starting at 6:30 PM. The free event is an opportunity to compete with kids in their age bracket in pitching, hitting and running contests.
This event is open to boys and girls in baseball or softball between the ages of 7-14 years old. All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificates and have their parent or guardian fill out the registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition. Failure to provide proof of age may result in disqualification.
Boys and girls are divided into four age divisions: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14 and have the chance to advance through four levels of competitions. The Pitch portion includes six opportunities to hit a designated "strike zone." The Hit portion includes batting off of a tee and testing a competitor's ability to hit toward straight-away toward centerfield. Hits will be measured for distance and accuracy. The Run portion involves running the bases (most likely from second base to home) 160 ft for baseball players, 120 feet for softball players.
The local event is the first level, winners in each age group and event(s) will be notified and advance to compete in Sectional Level on May 16th at Krieg Fields in South Austin. Those winners will advance to compete in Team Champions at MLB ballparks, those winners advance to compete at the National Finals at the MLB All-Star game at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati in mid-July.
