Pitch Hit & Run Competition Results
BYS is proud to be a local host to MLB’s Pitch Hit & Run Competition. This annual event is a free competition for players between the ages of 7-14 years old. Balcones had nearly 60 participants. The top three competitors in each category get to advance to the Sectionals competition on Krieg Fields in South Austin in May. They will compete in the category they won for a chance to advance to the next competition level. If they advance to three more levels they can earn an opportunity to compete at the MLB All-Stars Game in July. This year, that game is in San Diego. Thank you to all the parents and competitors who came to Balcones on Friday, April 22, 2016 for the local competition! All local winners have been notified via email. Below are the results per PHR rules.
We have a lot of baseball games in the coming weeks. Just a few reminders:
•Concession is open on game day/nights only so supply your players with water for practice nights
•Each team will have 2-3 concession assignments during the season. Your team will be assigned when your team is not playing, please work it out so that 2-3 of you are available at each assigned time.
•Home Team & BYS Visiting Team have assignments - Home team has to chalk the base lanes prior to the game, visiting team is responsible for raking the base lanes after the game
•Lost & Found - left something behind? Please look for it at the concession stand. We keep our lost & found items there during the season. All unclaimed items will be donated to charity at the end of the spring season.
•Three tournaments at the end of Spring Season:
EOS (End of Season) tournament for all BYS divisions (begins same week that regular season ends)
District 11 City Tournament (players must be available in June, practices begin in mid-May)
State All-Stars Tournament (players must be available in July, practices begin in mid-June)
The three tournaments are a lot of fun to watch and we will need volunteers to score keep, chalk the base lanes, and to assist in the concession stand. The players are usually nominated by their coaches and the Baseball Committee for the District 11 and State All-Stars tournaments.
Get your personal gift certificates at the Concession Stand all season long. These are sold in $10 increments are great to have around especially when you are short on cash on game day!

The Game Day/Practice Day rain out policy at BYS is usually determined about 1-2 hours prior to the first games/practices of the day. If it rained heavily the night before a game day or all day long prior to games/practice times, at least one to two BYS Board Members will go to the fields and check on the field conditions. If it deemed necessary to close (home plate under water, etc) we will update the Field Status widget on the right hand side of the BYS home page and send an email to all registered families.
Balcones Youth Sportsis an all-volunteer organization. The Board Members donate countless hours to the organization and are committed to making BYS a safe and fun place for kids to play ball. As a member, you will be asked to volunteer time during the season. Each team is expected to work one-two concession shifts when their child is not playing. We will also need coaches, assistant coaches, team parents, field prep, trash pick up, scorekeepers during the season. Help us help you make the facility a nice place for children to play ball!
