Volunteers Needed!

Balcones Youth Sports is an all-volunteer organization.  The Board Members donate countless hours to the organization and are committed to making BYS a safe and fun place for kids to play ball.  As a member, you will be asked to volunteer time during the season.  Each team is expected to work one-two concession shifts when their child is not playing.  We will also need coaches, assistant coaches, team parents, field prep, trash pick up, scorekeepers during the season. Help us help you make the facility a nice place for children to play ball!

BYS Rainout & Lightning Policy

The Game Day/Practice Day rain out policy at BYS is usually determined about one to two hours prior to the first games or practices of the day.  If it rained heavily the night before a game day or all day long prior to games/practice times, at least one to two BYS Board Members will go to the fields and check on the field conditions. If it deemed necessary to close (home plate under water, etc) we will update the Field Status widget on the right hand side of the BYS home page and send an email to all registered families.

BYS has a lightning detector in the concession stand. If lightning is detected within 10 miles of the facility then the fields and dug outs will be cleared and games or practices must be stopped.  Games or practices may not resume until the lightning has moved at least 10 miles out and no lightning strikes detected within that 10 mile radius for at least 30 minutes (30 minute "clock" resets every time a strike occurs within 10 miles).

You can also detect the lightning whereabouts on your smart phone. The Little League® WeatherBug is available for download on Google Play and the iTunes App Store for free. Watch the new short video about lightning and weather safety and see the app in action.
